Updates, Changes and Launch

I haven't been able to update the blog lately because we have been real busy here in getting things out. We had a minor setback that prevented us from releasing the software in January but now everything is on track for April launch.

I have just returned from a month long business trip from the States last Monday (2nd March) and gathered a lot of feedback for our solution. I spoke with more than 10 datacenters regarding our solution and the benefits. Their feedback was just phenomenal.

A lot of datacenters expressed excitement and interest with our product. To our surprise, datacenters are not just willing to resell licenses for Aflexi but also for using it to deploy their own CDN Solutions.

They told us about how customers had left them for not having an effective distributed solution for speeding up downloads. It was not that they could not provide top-notch services. Instead they told us, maintaining a cluster of servers was much too expensive for publishers especially during this recession and dragged them away from focusing on their core business.

Another challenge was that datacenters had to spend a lot of time manually configuring clustered solutions for customers. Nowadays, not having an automated configuration process is a big no-no. Manual configuration pushes up overhead costs and derails datacenters from what they do best: selling space or servers and maintaining networks. The new Aflexi automated solution should help solve the issue.

In the last three months, Aflexi has gone through a lot of changes and growth, especially in our business model and development progress.

New and improved Business Model

Initially we wanted to sign up datacenter partners so that we could sell bulk licenses (30 licenses, $150 monthly for each license) to them in order to minimize our overhead, but we experienced a few concerns.

  • "I wouldn't want to commit $4500 monthly to your product especially during this recession and your product is new!"
  • "Your product is new and I'll need to get my technicians to learn your solution to support my customers"
  • "I love and hate you because you enabled me to offer new solution for my customers but for the same reason, your software has enabled my customers to go elsewhere to build their network"

Instead, we now have decided to drop that commitment and changed the model drastically and offered 25GB-license that allows a web-hosting company to install our software on as many servers as they want for free!

So here is the new deal. A company can use our CDN Software for free until they exceeded the 25GB traffic threshold. At that point, they have to choose either stop using the software or to pay $150 monthly to enjoy all the goodies that they have enjoyed. So that means ZERO commitment for datacenter partners right now!

We have also added 6 months free support for datacenter partners. If you have any problems with customers, forward it to us and we will fix it. Your technicians can learn the new software and solution on their schedule.

This is a tricky part. We thought of something new and cool to offer. Partner datacenters will get a cut of Aflexi usage-based revenue from their licensee. So wherever your licensees go, as long as their license is with you, you will get a percentage of the pie. That makes sense, doesn’t it?

Development Progress

Our development team has grown by 600%, from 2 developers team to 12!

The primary reason we had to delay our launch was due to the fact that we had just 2 core members to build the prototype. We do not have pile of cash for us to burn, so we had to be frugal. We have been aggressively hiring to speed up the advancement of our prototype. Our development team has been working very hard to get the product out. Recently we had a special dinner to bring the team together. The picture below was taken with some of our developers (some were unable to attend).

All is well with Aflexi and more exciting news coming to you! Keep checking back with us...
